EDM Upgrade
Shown here is the newest acquisition in the MSI-South facility. This 16-station tool changer was installed in July, and represents a significant cost reduction in the South plant. Although the Mitsubishi EX-30 is not the only EDM machine in the plant, it is relied on very heavily because of its state of the art control capabilities. When the EDM workload is heavy, the plant had to resort to split shifts or “call-ins” to keep the EDM department productive 24 hours a day. EDM capacity is increased dramatically, simply by programming the changer to perform multiple burns, or burn multiple cavities, with no operator and work 24 hours a day. It frees the operator to manufacture electrodes during his normal shift, rather than tend to the EDM machine most of the day. It also adds a new level of accountability and eliminates the possibility of errors due to miscommunication between operators.
Network Upgrade
MSI South just recently upgraded its computer network to provide increased capacity, security and the ability to share data with its customers more quickly. These upgrades allows information to be shared quickly and safely with its customers and sister facilities:
- New file servers with Raid level 5 storage and power supply redundancy.
- Exchange server for increased mail security and efficiency.
- Extensive virus protection, both incoming and outgoing, to protect our customers and ourselves from virus propagation.
- Fractional T1 connection to the Internet for efficient data transfers in and out.

It’s easy and secure to use and provides all the necessary information required to assure you that your data would be handled in a secure, timely and appropriate manner. We encourage all customers to use FTP instead of E-mail. FTP is more efficient, allows the data to be tracked and archived and is faster than sending large files via E-mail.
